Subject - Brixham Shakedown Cruise Report

The first cruise of the season, to Brixham 12th - 13th April 2008.

SFCC's cruising season season got off to a cold and breezy start. The forecast was for showers through the day, with the promise of a gale of wind from the WSW.
Well the good news is that the gale never arrived. We did however have heavy showers of rain, mixed in with the odd blizzard of hail stones. Under some of the rather dark looking clouds the wind gusted up to 35 kts, but without any sea worth speaking about it made for a very quick passage to Brixham.
I left the Exe at 1100 hrs and was in Brixham by 1330. The weather seemed to put everyone else off, as our one boat fleet (me!) headed straight for the marina, and the promise of a free night courtesy of MDL. 2kw of heater, set to maximum, dried the boat out in short order.

The return journey was much more like it, with the sun shining and the wind off the land. Again a quick passage back to the Exe for high tide, and back through the shortcut, to the mooring.

In summary we (I) had an excellent weekend, and will be looking forward to a few more members joining in on the next one.

PS. Brixham Club Pontoon is servicable to all.

Paddy "BrandyBottle".

Subject - Brixham Shakedown Cruise - Saturday 12th April

The first cruise of the season.

Hi Everyone.

For the first club cruise this year, as usual, we have planned a short shakedown to Brixham. It is my intention to leave the mooring at 10.00 hrs BST on the Saturday 12th April. We will be trying to get on the club pontoons initially, but if they are occupied, or simply not there, then the next option will be the events pontoon.
Brixham as you may remember had planned to do some considerable works over the winter, but for some reason or another they where delayed. So the pontoon may, or may not, be available.

Lets hope for fine weather, (it’s just been snowing as I write this). The more that attend the better, so encourage anyone that you speak with to come along. Comms will be the same as last year with an initial call on Ch 16, we will then move to Ch 08.

I can be contacted by mobile if required 07702 941332, or e-mail brandybottle.paddy@tiscali.co.uk for those with the facility.

Looking forward to seeing you on the weekend.
Paddy. “Brandybottle”.
