Subject - Flatfish Competition - Results.

The weather finally allowed us to start our competition season today.
Light winds and a hot sunny day were forecast, and that's exactly what we had for once.

13 club boats, with around 26 members, were on the water fishing, mostly around Straight Point for Plaice initially, with some then coming back into the Exe to try to bag a Flounder, or two, in the afternoon.

Only one Plaice was caught out to sea, by Lee Pearson on 'Emily Jane', and it weighed 1lb 5oz.
He also landed the best Flounder too, at a very respectable 2lb 8.5oz. Around seven other Flounders were also caught in the river, which is encouraging as they have been scarce for the last few years.

It was the Flounder that took top honours in the competition, at just over 100% specimen size.

Debrief, and a Chinese, in the club finished the day nicely.
Well done everybody for your efforts.

Pollack Comp is next weekend, on Saturday 17th, (or Sunday 18th, if it looks the better day).

Subject - Pollack Competition - Postponed Again - New Date is Saturday 17th May.

Gone with the wind once again, unfortunately. Moderate SE wouldn't be nice!
Saturday 17th May is the new date now, but this time we may elect for the Sunday, (18th), if it looks the better day.
Don't forget it's the Flatfish Competition next on Sunday 11th May. Hopefully we will get out for some Plaice.

Subject - Pollack Competition - New Date is Saturday 3rd May

It's a Bank Holiday weekend, but the tides are good, and inshore pollacking doesn't stay productive too long into the season. Lets hope we get lucky with the weather this time.

Subject - Early Catch Report

Club members boats are now moving out onto the moorings, and already the season has gotten off to a good start for some keen early starters.
John Astill, fishing aboard Dave Ferris's "Pequod", has just returned a good bag of Pollack to 7lb 12oz, followed by Dave Ferris himself catching a fine Pollack of 13lb 2oz, along with a two fish bag weighed in at 21lb 10oz. Well done both of you.
This all bides well for our forthcoming Pollack Competition on Saturday 19th April.
Interest, within the club, is as promising as ever, so lets hope for some good fishing weather on the day.

Subject - Marine & Coastguard Agency CG66 Vessel Safety Registration.

Most will no doubt be aware of MCA CG66 - The Voluntary Safety Identification Scheme.
This scheme involves you providing the MCA with your vessel details, along with a little personal stuff.
In the event of any problems at sea, the Coastguard will already know most of the required information that they need to work with.
You can submit your CG66 totally online, even including a photo of your boat, or a form can be downloaded for sending by regular mail.
You are obviously all encouraged to get your details to the Coastguard Agency.
It really is so easy to do online, and costs absolutely nothing. But please note down your Username & Password, in case any changes are necessary in the future.

Here is the link to the MCA CG66 Registration webpage.

Subject - End of Season Notes
November 30th unfortunately, marks the end of our regular fishing season. Club Competitions and Specimen Trophies are now all done for another year.

However, Fish of the Month (boat only) continues through the winter months, should any of you be fortunate to get afloat. And any Shore Caught specimens can also be weighed-in, as this runs through 12 months of the year too.

Apart from the various functions and parties at the club in the ensuing months, could you all please make a special note that the Annual Presentation of Trophies is on Saturday January 19th 2008. It's always a great night, made all the better when everybody is present. Hopefully we'll see you there.

Next years regular fishing season starts on April 1st 2008. Though in recent years we have tended to be afloat and out fishing again in March.
