Subject - Pollack Competition Results
The Pollack comp took place at the fourth attempt.
Light South - South Easterly winds were forecast, with high temperatures, and a little mist/fog in the morning.
It looked like it was going to be an ideal day for us.
But the mist/fog turned out far denser than anyone would have liked, and it lingered for the whole day, putting a bit of a dampener on the Comp.
We did still manage 16 club members aboard 9 boats though, which was good.
Unfortunately only 4 fish were weighed in, with another 2 getting back too late.

Don't forget it's the Ladies and Men's Mackerel and Most Species Comp on Saturday 2nd July, or Sunday 3rd July, whichever is the best day.
Also to remind everyone that you will need to weigh in your heaviest Mackerel, in this goes towards the Accumulator.

Subject - Conger Competition Results
I was looking forward to the Conger Comp this year with great anticipation as last year there were 20 plus Conger caught with many of these being over 20lbs.
We had 8 boats and 15 members fishing, and I was hoping we might top it this year. With the light winds forecasted, we should have been set for a good day, but the further you went out into the bay, the Southerly winds got stronger and the swell bigger. Most of us were heading to the Tardice Rough and Brian's Reef.
With everyone anchored up and baits put down, it soon became apparent that Congers were going to be few and far between. The 4ft swell made things very uncomfortable and impossible to keep your bait down on the bottom. With no reports of any Congers being caught and the constant swell it became a test of endurance, with no one wanting to be the first to pull up anchor and head for home, because whoever it was would be referred to as THE wimp.
Thinking it was pointless staying out for the sake of it, I suggested we all up anchor and head for home.
I would like to thank all those who stuck it out for as long as we did. It can only get better.
The Pollock Comp will be on Saturday 18th or Sunday 19th June, weather permitting.

Subject - Flatfish Competition Results
With a forecast of light winds and sunshine it was of no surprise when 24 of our members turned out to fish the first comp of the year, which was the Flatfish.
Skippers took advantage of the sea conditions, and choose to fish out to sea and not in the river.
But on reflection it might have been better to have fished in the river until a Flounder had been caught, as three of the four fish weighed in were Flounder, but that’s for next year.
I hope this years Accumulator will be as exciting as last year.
The next competition also goes towards the Accumulator, which is the Pollack on Saturday May 21st, or Sunday 22nd, if it's the better day.

Subject - Whiting Competition /Accumulator Competition - Results.
Our last competition for 2010 was the Whiting held on Sunday 17th October with 17 people fishing aboard 10 boats.
Only 5 points separated the top 3 in the Accumulator Competition so it was important to get an early start.
With a swell of 4-5ft fishing had to be done on the drift, and it wasn't until around mid day that the swell dropped down enabling people to fish at anchor.
It was nice to see some larger fish coming on board and the biggest of these was a fine Whiting of 2lb 4.8oz caught by John Hall on his own boat “Blue Mist”.
After the final weigh in and with points added to the accumulator table, John Hall was just pipped by Carolyn Whiting by one point to be overall Competition Champion, 29 points to 30.

Subject - Whiting Competition Results

Competition day brought light winds and sunshine, and it was enough to entice more members out to fish our last competition of the year.
9 boats and 20 members were fishing, with everyone jostling for a win, or as many points as possible, to add to their Accumulator overall score.
A lot of Whiting were being caught and boats were moving from one location to the next trying to find the bigger and better specimens.
There were a number of Whiting being landed at around the 1lb mark, so it was always going to be a close run competition.
The best fish of the day was a fine Whiting of 1lb 10.9oz caught by John "Oxo" Webb aboard “Blue Mist”. It was nice to see John get his first result.
SFCC's fishing competition season is now done, with all our respective competitions fished.
The next fishing event to note is the Fishing Planning Meeting, which this year is on Friday 4th November, 8:00pm prompt start.
It is at this meeting that each member gets to table any points to discuss regarding how the Fishing Secretary might consider organising things for next year.
The attending group get to vote on ideas put forward.

Subject - Ladies Bass and Wrasse Competition Results
With all the participants closely watching the weather forecast for the weekend, it was always going to be touch and go as to whether it would take place.
With light south westerly winds forecast for the Saturday and lighter westerly winds on the Sunday, it was decided the competitions would go ahead.
Only three boats fished on the Saturday so it wasn't surprising that only 3 fish were weighed in. The biggest of these was a Bass of 2lb 9.8oz caught by Carolyn Whiting aboard J’s Pleasure, and was the best of the 4 she caught on the day, plus a Ballan Wrasse of 3lb.
On the Sunday however there were 7 boats fishing. Kerry Smith and Linda LeMilliere fishing aboard Lively Lady caught Bass and brought them to the weigh in, but alas all were smaller than the one caught on the Saturday.
The best Wrasse brought to the weigh in on Sunday was a Ballan Wrasse of 3lb 8.8oz caught by Jenny Cole fishing aboard Impenza. Jenny is new to fishing and this Wrasse was caught on her new PINK rod.

Just a reminder that the next competition is for Black Bream on the week-end of September 3rd.

Subject - SFCC vs EDSFC Inter-Club Competition Results

Our Inter-Club Competition against Exmouth Deep Sea Fishing Club was yet again another success, with 8 boats from Exmouth, and 11 boats from SFCC taking part.
We had light westerly winds in the morning, forecast to increase later on in the afternoon.
Most competitors were fishing towards Budleigh, Ladram Bay, and out on the Tardice Rough, with a few also fishing on the local wrecks.
It was looking to be a competition of specimens like Lesser Spotted Dogfish, Bream, Mackerel, Cuckoo Wrasse etc. that would win the day.
So it was a great surprise that SFCC's Peter Harmer, aboard his own boat "Katie", landed a magnificent Bass of 11lb 4oz 13drm, representing 118.96% specimen, which together with Lee Pearson’s Cuckoo Wrasse of 1lb 2oz, representing 90% specimen, gave our club a combined specimen percentage of 208.96%.
Exmouth Deep Sea Fishing Club were not so fortunate, with their best fish, a Lesser Spotted Dogfish of 1lb 12oz, representing 60%, and a Bass of 4lb 9oz, at 50%, totalling 110%.
The Social Evening at SFCC was also a success, with around 60 people from both clubs sitting down for a meal.
After the food, and Trophy Presentation, everyone returned to the bar where live music was provided by the Dans Brothers.
A good night was had by all I spoke to.

Subject - Ladies and Men's Mackerel & Most Species Competition Results
With a full day of sunshine promised by the weathermen, with light winds and flat seas, it had all the ingredients for a brilliant day out on the water, whether you were catching fish or not, far better than being at home.
15 boats and 30 members were fishing, and with some members fishing for the largest Mackerel of the day and others for the Most Species, the results showed some interesting figures.
Donna Dell "Dream Catcher" won the Ladies Most Species section of the day with a total of 5, and Mike Whiting
"J's Pleasure" the Men's Most Species section, with a total of 6.
Many members were just one fish short of the winning total. It was good to see one of our new members Mandy Endicott "Joanna" catching the heaviest Mackerel of the day, which has put her in 4th place in the Accumulator Competition with 10 points. It was also nice to see a new young member Sophie Endicott "Joanna" taking part in the competition.

Stuart Green caught the biggest eel at 0-15oz. They made a big effort to come to the scales as well, so well done to you all. Saturday 15th October Men's Bass and Wrasse Day 2 Results - After many cancellations we managed to hold the Men's Bass & Wrasse Day 2 of 2. Time was running out fast, and with light South Easterly winds forecast the sea conditions were never going to be ideal. There were 15 people fishing aboard 7 boats, and lots of Bass were being caught by those choosing to fish inshore as well as those on local wrecks. Best Bass of the day, at 9lb 0.4oz, was caught by John Astill aboard his own boat "J’s Pleasure", which also happened to be the biggest Bass of the entire competition too. On Saturday 1st October the first day of the Men’s Bass and Wrasse Competition took place. With 11 boats and 20 members fishing, split between those choosing to fish their favourite spots along Budleigh to Ladram, and others fishing their favourite wrecks. On this particular day the wrecks provided the biggest Bass, caught by Laurence Graves fishing aboard his boat “Another Lady”, a Bass of 7lb 3.2oz. There were also a lot of Bass caught by those fishing along the coast, but these weren’t so big. The best specimen fish of the day was a fine Ballan Wrasse of 6lb 10.8oz caught by Dan Pike aboard his boat “Starshine” which represented well over 100% Specimen. We will hopefully get the second days Men's Bass and Wrasse Comp in before the end of the season, so I can't include the Bass Results into the Accumulator Table, at this time. On Sunday 2nd October we held the Black Bream Competition, and like the Saturday the sun was shining and the wind was light. There were even more members fishing in total 24 aboard 15 boats, with most fishing the Tardice and Exeter’s Rough. But unlike the Bass the day before, the Bream were proving far harder to find, though one person who certainly did find them was Bill Searles who caught 4 in total aboard his own boat “Impensa”, the biggest of these being a Black Bream of 2lb 6oz. Subject - Flatfish Competition Results With a forecast of light winds and sunshine it was of no surprise when 24 of our members turned out to fish the first comp of the year, which was the Flatfish. Skippers took advantage of the sea conditions, and choose to fish out to sea and not in the river. But on reflection it might have been better to have fished in the river until a Flounder had been caught, as three of the four fish weighed in were Flounder, but that’s for next year. I hope this years Accumulator will be as exciting as last year. The next competition also goes towards the Accumulator, which is the Pollack on Saturday May 21st, or Sunday 22nd, if it's the better day. Russ ________________________________ Posted - 20th October 2010 19.45hrs...... Subject - Whiting Competition /Accumulator Competition - Results. Our last competition for 2010 was the Whiting held on Sunday 17th October with 17 people fishing aboard 10 boats. Only 5 points separated the top 3 in the Accumulator Competition so it was important to get an early start. With a swell of 4-5ft fishing had to be done on the drift, and it wasn't until around mid day that the swell dropped down enabling people to fish at anchor. It was nice to see some larger fish coming on board and the biggest of these was a fine Whiting of 2lb 4.8oz caught by John Hall on his own boat “Blue Mist”. After the final weigh in and with points added to the accumulator table, John Hall was just pipped by Carolyn Whiting by one point to be overall Competition Champion, 29 points to 30.
